Former Pittsburgh Steeler and Army War Veteran Gives Motivational Talk for LCCC Fund Raiser

The hard lessons former NFL running back Rocky Bleier learned early in life helped him to overcome adversity and reach his goals both on and off the football field. This former Pittsburgh Steelers teammate will share his message in a motivational evening on Monday, Nov. 4, sponsored by the Lehigh Carbon Community College Foundation. Proceeds will benefit scholarships for veterans. The event will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Glasbern Inn in Fogelsville.

Bleier played football at the University of Notre Dame, and with a National Championship under his belt, was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in later rounds to play professionally. However, toward the end of his rookie season, he was drafted by the United States Army and sent to Vietnam. When his platoon ran into an ambush, he suffered severe rifle and grenade wounds that damaged his legs and feet.

Doctors were certain he could never play football again, but Bleier overcame his injuries through therapy. He rejoined the Steelers and went on to star in the NFL, playing for 12 seasons and in four Super Bowls. He eventually retired from football and today applies his experiences and attitudes toward meeting challenges and achieving goals in today’s business.

The evening will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Bleier’s talk will begin at 5:30 p.m. and conclude with questions and answers and an opportunity to purchase his book and have it signed.

Tickets to the event are $75 per person. Sponsorships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 are also available.
