KU Communication Design Graduate Program Offers Further Flexibility for Students

Kutztown University’s Master of Fine Arts in communication design program is one of the few programs in its field in the state and provides one of the best-valued programs in the country. In an effort to give students further flexibility, KU’s communication design graduate program has announced changes to its on-campus residency-requirement.

KU’s graduate-level communication design program previously had a five-day residency, once per semester, for three years – totaling nine residencies. KU has approved a new residency-requirement, beginning with the fall 2020 semester. Students will have a five-day residency-requirement, three times over the duration of the program. These will occur at the beginning of first and second fall semesters and during the students’ final semester to coincide with their final presentation and defense of their graduate research project.

The remainder of students’ semesters are all online.

Changes to the requirement were made to allow design professionals to balance work, family and life while getting an affordable, accredited state-school education.

Kutztown University’s Master of Fine Arts in communication design program has been featured as one of the best online Masters in Graphic Design degree programs in the nation, according to www.TheBestSchools.org. Ranked 11th in 2019 polls, KU is the only Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education school on the list. KU offers the first and only MFA in Communication Design within the State System.

In addition, KU offers the most affordable design, low-residency program in the country, according to www.graphicdesigndegreehub.com (press release).

The program is comprised of a community of designers and faculty who are passionate about what they create. Students are encouraged to invoke meaningful change, develop their strengths and celebrate the future of design through individual development and visual expression. The program promotes a well-rounded education through the study of design history, contemporary topics, typography, emerging media, and the exploration of personal and professional goals.
