KUTZTOWN, PA (03/21/2024) Kutztown University Radio (KUR) has once again set a gold standard in collegiate broadcasting by securing a top award at the prestigious 85th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Awards in New York City this March.
Amidst fierce competition from student radio stations around the world, KUR triumphed by bringing home the coveted award for ‘Best On-Air Pledge Drive,’ with its innovative “1866 Minute Giving Challenge.” The relentless energy and creativity of the students during the nearly 31-hour live broadcast caught the judges’ attention and epitomized the station’s commitment to excellence in student-led media.
The “1866 Minute Giving Challenge” involved a dynamic team of Kutztown University’s finest: Jacob Regensburger, Mitchell Smedley, Jack Heym, Joshua Tuite, Devon Koch, Sydney Waddell, Abigayle Regensburger, Kaylee Brulliea and Linda Zuniga. This marathon event not only showcased the students’ broadcasting prowess but also their dedication to engaging with the community and promoting philanthropy through innovative media outreach.
KUR received a total of seven nominations in various categories, reflecting the station’s broad talent and diverse programming, which ranges from smooth pop and R&B to in-depth political news coverage and engaging talk shows. The station’s other nominations included:
• Best Promotions Director (Michael Adams).
• Best On-Air Pledge Drive (Penn Environment Fundraiser).
• Best Community Outreach Event (Pridefest Recap Special).
• Best Political News (U.S. Vice President Harris visits RACC).
• Best Show Poster.
• Best Show Intro.
