Lehigh Township Police respond to mental Health crisis

Submitted by CHIEF SCOTT FOGEL
On Tuesday, May 7 at approximately 12:45, Lehigh Township officers were dispatched to a call for a male subject, covered in blood, in the backyard of a house in the 1100 block of Municipal Road, near the intersection of Wood Drive. An officer responded and found the 37-year-old male subject having a mental health crisis. The man was standing in a driveway, shirtless, wearing blood-soaked pants, with blood covering his face, neck and torso. He was observed holding a knife. The male subject began yelling at police to shoot and kill him.
After approximately 15 minutes, officers were able to subdue the subject. He was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for several serious stab wounds to the neck and arms. It was determined the wounds were self-inflicted. Northampton County Crisis was notified to assist with the subject.
